Located in Orangeburg, S.C., SC State University was founded as a land-grant college with a mission of providing education and service to the citizens of the State of South Carolina. SC State currently sponsors 14 sports (8 women's sports; 6 men's sports) and has been home to generations of scholars and leaders in business, military service, government, education, medicine, science, engineering technology, and more. This HBCU is one of the founding members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and has won numerous championships in several sports. SC State currently has an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students and is committed to providing affordable, quality baccalaureate, master’s educational specialist, and doctoral degree programs.

The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is responsible for directing and overseeing the programming, planning, and budgeting of intercollegiate athletics; for fundraising in support of athletic activities; and for representing the athletic program consistent with university purposes on campus and in the Orangeburg community.

• Under the direction of the President, uses judgment and discretion to lead and manage the Athletic Department. Follows all SC State, State and Federal, NCAA, and MEAC guidelines and statutes. • Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet. Support in developing policy, long-range planning, and responses to issues affecting campus life. • Ensure that all athletics staff comply with appropriate University, MEAC, and NCAA rules and regulations. • Assists the University with addressing the need to comply with Title IX. • Evaluate, approve revisions of, and communicate athletics-related policy (e.g., ticket policies, scheduling, travel policies, etc.) • Represent the Department of Athletics within regional and national organizations as appropriate. • Provide general oversight and coordination of all activities in the athletic facilities. • Work collaboratively with the Office of University Advancement in fundraising and alumni support for SC State athletics. • Provide oversight, direction, consultation, and support to those directly supervised. Recruit, select, and train staff with direct reporting relationships. • Determine budget requirements for services and programs within athletics. Make decisions and ensures budget compliance. • Assess and provide input on the short and long-range space needs of areas supervised. • Maintain a close and supportive working relationship with other University offices, e.g., intramural, alumni, development, academic affairs, etc. • Provide guidance to the Athletic Advisory Committee in recommending athletic policy. • Oversight of the academic progress and development of student-athletes. • Provide leadership in responding to student needs and campus issues related to all University athletic programs.
