The Visual Arts Program in the Visual & Performing Arts Department at South Carolina State University is seeking applicants to fill a full-time 10-month non-tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Art and Curator in which responsibilities are dedicated to 50% instructional duties and 50% Fine Arts Building (FAB) Gallery Curator/Studio Technician duties. This position will instruct two undergraduate courses per semester in an area of specialization, foundations, art appreciation, independent study, and/or senior capstone.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Studio Technician responsibilities include but are not limited to helping to maintain and supervise the studios & ensure safe art-making practices and the proper handling and storage of materials, tools, and equipment. They will maintain and repair studio equipment and facilities and/or provide support related to equipment and safety. The studio technician is responsible for studio organization, cleanliness, and safety by maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all studio spaces and working with the College Safety Officer to implement proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. This position will assist the art faculty with ordering and receiving art materials/supplies. FAB Gallery Curator responsibilities include but are not limited to curation, installation, and de-installation of all exhibitions and coordination with visiting artists. This includes the production and distribution of related marketing materials, the writing, and distribution of press releases, and the coordination of artist talks and receptions. The selected candidate will maintain and upkeep the FAB Gallery. The gallery curator is responsible for coordinating the annual student exhibition. This position reports to the Chair of the Visual & Performing Arts Department and may be required to perform additional duties as may be assigned by the college dean, and other members of the upper administration.
Minimum Requirements:
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or Master of Arts (MA) degree required.

Preferred Requirements:
