SC State University's 1890 Research and Extension Department has a vacancy for an Associate Research Director. The associate research director reports directly to the executive director of 1890 Research & Extension and oversees the operation of the Evans-Allen Research Program.
Job Duties and Function:
- Assists in providing administrative leadership to all research programs and in providing programmatic leadership to research programs in agriculture.
- Assists the executive director or his appointee in preparing and coordinating publications, reviews, and evaluations of research programs in Agriculture; works with principal investigators to ensure that 1890 reports are submitted promptly at the termination of Evans-Allen and State-funded projects.
- Assists the executive director in developing and monitoring research budgets for Evans-Allen and State research projects in agriculture and human sciences; Represents the executive director at selected research meetings, workshops, and other appropriate forums; monitors implementation of the NIFA 5-year Plan of Work for research programs in agriculture.
- Provide leadership to and direct the daily activities of the 1890 Research Department.
- Develop and direct operations of capital budgetary processes, policy interpretations, development and dissemination of procedures, data accumulation, budget forecasting, ensure fiscal and physical resources are directed to achieve maximum positive benefits in support of 1890 Research and Extension's agency's mission.
- Attend Legislative hearings and present information for discussion of decision making. Actively participate as a member of the 1890 Research & Extension senior leadership team and serves as the chief advisor to the administrator in 1890 Research.
Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Agriculture, community development, family and consumer sciences, or related field required. Ten years of experience, including a minimum of five years in Research with administrative experience desired. Middle to senior management level supervisory skills are required. Must possess effective communication skills and the ability to successfully operate in a team environment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to make presentations and prepare reports. Must be sensitive to the completion of tasks and meeting deadlines. May be required to beyond the core hours.
Preferred Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Agriculture, community development, family and consumer sciences, or related field required. Fifteen years of experience, including a minimum of 10 years in Research administrative experience desired.
