South Carolina State University is seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Women's Soccer Coach. The position assists the Head coach in development and administration of the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer program. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coaching, mentoring, program development, recruiting, public relations, community involvement and administrative and operational duties as assigned in compliance with all university, conference and NCAA regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coaching: Assists in providing coaching and administrative duties to support the Women's Soccer program including:
- Assists in developing sport-specific systems and strategies, with emphasis on tactical components, and instructs student-athletes on these systems and concepts as well as rules and fundamentals of the game/event in order to develop the student-athlete and achieve personal and team goals
- Evaluate student-athletes to identify strengths and deficiencies, and design instructional opportunities to teach student-athletes how to improve technical and strategic execution
- Provide individual skill instruction, supervision, and motivation to student-athletes
- Assist in preparing and coordinating annual, seasonal, monthly, weekly, and day-to-day practice planning and design
- Assist in conducting conditioning programs, in coordination with strength and conditioning staff, encompassing recognized and approved methods of improving power, speed, strength, and aerobic performance, consistent with industry safety and health standards.
- Assist with all practice sessions while incorporating basic sport strategies, as is deemed appropriate
- Incorporate position/event specific learning opportunities into daily practice design as directed by head coach, including instruction on techniques
- Foster an environment within the program framework which develops the whole person
- Assist in maintaining a close working relationship with the athletic trainer and strength & conditioning staff in regards to athletic injury, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention.
Administration
- Assist and manage completing and maintaining all forms and records as required for NCAA compliance.
- Assist or manage team travel coordination and logistics.
- Assist or manage scheduling of practices/team meetings/player meetings/video review, working closely with Athletics Facilities staff.
- Assist or Manage with scheduling of opponents.
- Assist with or manage video exchange and film-related aspects of scout reports and player development.
- Assists in planning, coordination, and execution of all approved Alumni and fundraising events/activities.
- Assists in maintaining and monitoring information required for NCAA eligibility of each student-athlete and informs the athletes on NCAA rules and regulations.
- In coordination with assigned academic advisor, assists in monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes to assure graduation.
- Assist with monitoring the condition of equipment and requesting repairs or replacement as necessary.
- In coordination with Athletics Facilities staff, assist with monitoring the condition of sport-related facilities and locker rooms.
- Keep current in knowledge about issues affecting the athletic program, including internal and external events, discussions, and concerns.
- Assist in maintaining a close working relationship with the SID regarding media relations, public relations, promotion, and awards to promote intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the University.
- Assists in periodic review and evaluation of program goals, analyzing findings, identifying areas requiring improvement, and pursuing more efficient methods and processes.
- Comply with all department and NCAA Division I requirements with special consideration for NCAA legislation governing sport-specific noncoaching staff members.
Recruiting
- Assist with or manage the prospective student-athlete recruitment process
- As an on-campus recruiter, assist with or manage the student-athlete recruitment process, collaborate with other department and university staff in designing official and unofficial visits in compliance with all university, conference, and NCAA regulations.
- Establish and develop relationships with appropriate high school and junior college officials, amateur club coaches, and coaches within the sport's national governing body
- Develop, maintain, and use master recruit databases to support decision-making, assessments, evaluations, and program review.
