SC State University Public Service & Agriculture, in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture, provides an important public service to rural and underserved individuals, families, communities, and farmers needing access to the latest research-based science and sustainable practices in youth leadership development, agriculture, financial management, business development, nutrition and college and career readiness.1890 Research and Extension is hiring for a 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent.

The 4-H and Youth Development extension agent will coordinate, develop, facilitate, and conduct projects and activities that assist rural/urban families, individuals, youth, and communities. Projects must be designed to meet the needs of diverse limited resource audiences and follow the Plan of Work and Civil Rights/Affirmative Action guidelines. Programs, projects, and activities will target limited resources and socially disadvantaged underserved youth and families in the Pee Dee region.

Minimum Requirements for Entry into Position: 

Individuals should possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology, or related areas with three (3) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience including teaching activities in youth development areas.

Preferred Requirements for Entry into Position: 

Preferably, the individual should possess a master’s in education, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology, or related area with at least five (5) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience including teaching activities in youth development areas.

• Must be able to assume responsibility under minimum supervision, exercise initiative, and judgment, and make sound decisions within the scope of assigned authority; must maintain a good working relationship with people. Must be able to relate to culturally diverse employees and their constituents. A valid driver’s license and daily access to an operable vehicle, which meets the SC Department of Highways and Public Safety Road laws and regulations are required.
• Strong initiative with the ability to multi-task and prioritize workload.
