Your Role in Keeping Campus Safe

Reporting through the Chief of Campus Police and Public Safety, you'll be a uniformed, sworn presence across the SCSU campus — building trust with students, faculty, staff, and visitors while upholding state and federal law. Core responsibilities include:

  • Patrolling campus grounds, buildings, and parking facilities on foot and by vehicle to deter and detect criminal activity
  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, documenting incidents thoroughly and accurately
  • Enforcing South Carolina criminal statutes and University policies in a fair, community-centered manner
  • Collaborating with local law enforcement agencies and campus departments on safety planning and incident response
What You Bring to the Badge
  • South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) certification, or eligibility to obtain certification within the required timeframe
  • A valid South Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate situations and communicate clearly under pressure
  • Sound judgment when applying law, policy, and discretion in a diverse campus environment
  • Commitment to community-oriented policing principles — particularly relevant to SCSU's student-centered mission
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
