The Director of General Education Curriculum (GEC) provides strategic leadership, oversight, and coordination of the institution’s General Education program. The Director ensures that the GEC aligns with institutional learning outcomes, state requirements, accreditation standards, and the mandates of the South Carolina REACH Act. This role leads curriculum development, facilitates assessment processes, and maintains compliance reporting through effective collaboration with faculty, academic departments, and administrative units.
Primary Responsibilities
General Education Leadership
• Provide vision and direction for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the General Education Curriculum.
• Collaborate with department chairs, faculty, and academic committees to ensure coherent and rigorous GEC offerings.
• Support faculty in the design, review, and revision of General Education courses.
Assessment & Data Management
• Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of GEC assessment data.
• Ensure assessment processes meet institutional and accreditation standards (e.g., SACSCOC).
• Prepare annual and periodic reports on student learning outcomes, performance metrics, and curriculum effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate documentation and data management systems for program review and compliance.
REACH Act Compliance
• Ensure all applicable courses and learning experiences meet the requirements of the South Carolina REACH Act.
• Coordinate with departments offering history, government, and civics-related coursework to verify alignment with required content.
• Monitor updates in state legislation and ensure institutional adherence to all compliance mandates.
• Prepare and submit annual or required REACH Act compliance reports.
Collaboration & Communication
• Serve as the primary liaison between the GEC, academic leadership, and campus stakeholders.
• Provide guidance and professional development related to general education pedagogy, assessment, and compliance.
• Communicate curriculum updates, assessment results, and compliance expectations to faculty and administrators.
Administrative & Governance Duties
• Coordinate GEC committee meetings, agendas, and decision-making processes.
• Manage documentation related to curriculum proposals, course approvals, and program changes.
• Contribute to strategic planning and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree or Senior Master’s student in a relevant academic discipline.
• Experience with curriculum development, program coordination, or academic leadership.
• Demonstrated knowledge of assessment practices and data-driven decision-making.
• Strong understanding of compliance and reporting requirements in higher education.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with the South Carolina REACH Act and general education policy.
- Ability to work effectively across diverse academic units and with faculty governance structures.
