South Carolina State University is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Volleyball Coach to join our Athletics Department. This position is integral to the development of student-athletes both on and off the court, emphasizing athletic skill enhancement, academic success, and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Athletic Training and Development: - Assist in planning and conducting practices, focusing on skill development, game strategies, and conditioning. - Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes to enhance their performance. -Collaborate with the strength and conditioning staff to design and implement training programs. -Attend and actively participate in all team activities, including games, meetings, and travel.
2. Recruitment and Scouting: - Identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes through scouting, attending tournaments, and maintaining recruiting databases. -Build relationships with high school coaches, club directors, and prospective student-athletes to facilitate recruitment efforts. - Coordinate recruiting visits and communicate effectively with recruits and their families.
3. Academic Support and Mentorship: - Monitor academic progress and provide support to ensure student-athletes meet eligibility requirements. - Foster a culture of academic excellence, personal responsibility, and leadership among student- athletes. - Serve as a mentor and role model, guiding student-athletes in their personal and athletic development.
4. Administrative Duties: - Assist in budget management, fundraising activities, and compliance with NCAA and conference regulations. - Maintain team records, statistics, and other administrative tasks as assigned. - Support the coordination of team travel, equipment inventory, and facility scheduling.
5. Community Engagement: - Participate in community outreach programs, camps, and clinics to promote the volleyball program and engage with local youth.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (required)
• Previous coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or club level.
• Strong knowledge of volleyball techniques, strategies, and NCAA rules.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
• Certification in CPR
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree
• Experience with NCAA Division I volleyball programs.
• Certification in First Aid.
