Job Description

The Student Athlete Academic Coordinator advises students concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, choice of major, and other academic activities and career goals to assist the students in making decisions regarding personal, educational and athletic goals leading to graduation.  The successful applicant will administer and monitor a comprehensive academic support system for student athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, MEAC and South Carolina State University rules, policies and regulations.             

 *Coordinate/advise and counsel student athletes

*Develop individualized academic support plans for student athletes

*Serve as a liaison wit academic offices, support services and faculty

* Provide one-on-one academic assistance as needed

*Monitor the academic degree progress of student athletes

*Assist Compliance office in and certifying officer in the NCAA certification and tracking process

*Meet with recruits during on campus visits to review available services for students

*Provide commitment to providing guidance in academic and personal development in a collaborative and mentoring environment

*Prepare daily/weekly study table and academic reports

*Develop a student education plan for timely graduation

*Help select appropriate courses for upcoming terms

*Reviews program requirements and prerequisites

*Assist students in understanding SCSU technology

*Review academic and career goals alignment

*Assist in understanding academic policies and procedures for the athletic department, campus

*Informs students of campus resources, referring to other departments, and work on students networking to foster assistance in degree completion and graduation

*Coordinates the tutoring and mentoring program

Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements for Position

*A Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in student services programs required

*Skilled application of Microsoft Office suite of products with emphasis on Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Blackboard, JumpForward and Teamworks experience a plus

*Communication skills, both written and oral are critical

*Must be detail oriented, organized and deadline conscious

Must be able to work well with senior and support staff across campus including Departmental Offices, Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar and Student Affairs.

 

Preferred

*A Master’s degree with two years of experience providing academic services to student service
