The Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support Services is crucial in promoting our institution’s academic success and holistic development of student-athletes. Reporting to the Vice President of Athletics, the Assistant Athletic Director will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive academic support programs tailored to student-athletes' unique needs. This position will supervise academic tutors, academic support personnel, and study hall monitors.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement academic support programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing student-athlete academic performance, retention, and graduation rates.
  2. Provide individualized academic counseling and support services to student-athletes, including academic advising, course selection, and degree planning.
  3. Collaborate with academic advisors, faculty, coaches, and other campus stakeholders to monitor student-athlete academic progress and ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional academic eligibility requirements.
  4. Coordinate tutoring services, study halls, and academic workshops to support student-athletes in achieving academic success.
  5. Assist student-athletes in accessing academic resources, such as writing centers, libraries, and technology labs, to enhance their learning experience.
  6. Maintain accurate records of student-athlete academic progress, including GPA, course schedules, and graduation requirements.
  7. Serve as a liaison between academic departments, athletic departments, and other campus offices to facilitate communication and collaboration on behalf of student-athletes.
  8. Stay abreast of best practices, trends, and regulations in academic support services for student-athletes and make recommendations for program improvements.
  9. Supervise and mentor academic support staff, including tutors, mentors, and student workers, to ensure the effective delivery of services.
  10. Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities to contribute to the overall success of the athletic program.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience working in academic support services for student-athletes at the collegiate level.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility requirements and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of academic advising principles, learning strategies, and student development theory.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience supervising professional staff
  • Commitment to upholding the values of integrity, academic excellence, and student success in collegiate athletics.
